Lisa's Bio
After completing her residency, Lisa R. Ramey, D.O., quickly realized that her interests were more focused on prevention of disease than the treatment of disease. She found herself wanting to spend more time teaching the parents of her patients how they could improve the overall health of their children through proper nutrition, education and minimization of overly-frequent antibiotic usage. Dr. Ramey became increasingly interested in the importance of a healthy diet, exercise and positive attitude and their positive effects on health. It didn’t hurt that Dr. Ramey’s husband, Kenneth Ramey, D.O., was also focusing on this process in his own private medical practice.
By the time they had their 2 children, both Dr. Ramey and her husband knew that the key to giving their patients the gift of health was through prevention. With this goal in mind, Dr. Ramey left her post as teaching faculty at Florida Hospital East Orlando to open her private practice in 2006 to further pursue her passion of educating children and their parents on prevention and wellness.
Childhood and adolescent obesity has always been of great interest to Dr. Ramey because it is preventable the majority of time. Historically, having the ability to focus on the prevention of obesity in a private practice setting has been difficult due to poor insurance reimbursement. Dr. Ramey was determined that something needed to be done to benefit these patients prior to the development of a disease or other obesity-related health condition that would still allow the patient’s attending physician to be involved for the safety of the patient.
To that end, in 2007 Dr. Ramey and Heather Quillen teamed up to develop a program that was fun, interactive and educational for children and adolescents who need to attain optimal weight and healthy lifestyle goals. The YoMedics™ Company was formed in 2007 with its flagship program, Kids Journey to YoPower Your Life rolling out in late Summer 2008. Dr. Ramey’s goal for her medical career is to help initiate a movement in medicine that encompasses taking a proactive approach to our children’s health instead of a re-active approach.
